Trapped Animals Intentionally Tortured by Charlotte County Florida

To be delivered to Ray Sandrock, Charlotte County Administrator, Tommy Scott, Community Services Director, Brian Jones, Animal Control Director, and Stephen R. Deutsch, Charlotte County Commissioner
STOP TORTURING TRAPPED ANIMALS AND REMOVE THOSE EMPLOYEES RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS IMMEDIATELY!!
There are currently 4 signatures. We need 50 signatures!

PETITION BACKGROUND

Charlotte County Florida Employees are intentionally torturing trapped hogs spearing and slashing them and leaving them to die. The evidence was captured on a County Surveillance camera. This is a clear violation of Florida Statute 828.12 which forbids “excessive or repeated infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering upon any animal.” Charlotte County refuses to fire those responsible and their superior who is to be held accountable for these brutal acts. PETA has investigated and issued an alert "Demand for Justice".

Re: Cruel killing of feral pigs

Your urgent attention is respectfully requested.

PETA is an international animal protection organization with more than 3 million members and supporters, tens of thousands residing in Florida. We understand that Charlotte County Parks and Natural Resources Department employees may be cruelly killing trapped feral pigs at Shell Creek Preserve. Photos provided to our headquarters, evidently captured by a motion-activated camera, depict a man identified to us as county environmental scientist "Jason Thompson" apparently shooting at trapped feral pigs with a crossbow and stabbing them with a spear-like implement. These photos can be viewed here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8747nfyevxp1a3w/AACl7GlH-CXkt1ZZ6scD-K_ma?dl=0
As you know, it is mandated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission that feral pigs be dealt with in a humane manner pursuant to Florida Section 828.12 which forbids "excessive or repeated infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering upon any animal." Alternate methods of dispatch for feral pigs (e.g., gunshot point blank, captive bolt, inhalants) are available so there should be no instance where cruel killings are justified.

We respectfully ask that all staff be specifically directed against cruel killing. PETA is happy to advise regarding humane feral pig control but if trapping is insisted upon, traps should be checked at least twice daily and captured animals immediately dispatched in a manner that minimizes suffering.

Thank you for your consideration. May we hear back from you soon?

Sincerely,
